Overview
At the top, a crowded skyline climbs into a blue sky: towers, windows and rooftops stacked against a big yellow sun. Below the line of the hill the palette turns warm and deep, into a world of arches, stairways, doors and tunnels. Hidden in both halves, eyes and faces watch from the walls.
The idea
Sopra e sotto means above and below. Every place has two lives: the one we see in daylight and the one that runs underneath, quieter and older. The canvas stacks them one on top of the other, so the eye travels down from the light into the ground and finds that the town keeps going.
