OVERVIEW

Commissioned painting based on the song “Tilted” by Christine and the Queens. The piece weaves together symbols from the lyrics, personal moments from their life and the colours of the non‑binary pride flag to tell the story of their journey towards self‑acceptance.

THE BRIEF

The painting was commissioned as a personal gift, with a clear request: translate the energy and themes of “Tilted” into an image that could also hold the key moments of the recipient’s life. The illustration needed to show what they have gone through on their path to embracing their identity, while avoiding clichés and leaving space for viewers to find their own reflection in the scene.

THE CONCEPT

I combined visual elements inspired by the song’s lyrics with details drawn from their real experiences, using them to build a narrative scene about feeling off‑balance, growing, and finding a truer sense of self. The palette is rooted in the non‑binary pride flag, so that the colours themselves become part of the story, quietly affirming their identity and turning the painting into both a portrait and a celebration of who they are becoming.
