The piece
The drawing starts from an architectural plan of a neighbourhood in Elephant Park, London. Seen from above, the trees are round shapes on a map. Here they open into eyes, and the eyes grow into faces, people and animals, until the plan is no longer streets and blocks but the community that fills them.
The idea
A plan shows where things go, but not who lives there. This piece turns the view from above into a portrait of the neighbourhood itself: the green spaces become its inhabitants, and the place is drawn by the lives that make it.
